Last night, Art Bell, w6obb, was the Guest Host on C2C AM; he filled in for George Noory.
I must admit that I have missed the last couple of times he has done this. I was looking forward to hearing that 'oh so familiar, in the night' voice.
Was I disappointed!
Is Major Ed Dames, who has seldom ever been ‘right’ with any of his predictions, the only Guest that will go on Broadcast Radio with Art?
And that dulcet, ‘in the night’ Art Bell voice that I listened to for years, am finely attuned too, is gone. Have age and stopping smoking taken their tolls on Art Bell’s famous voice?
Art Bell not only has ‘voice issues’; his timing is way off. He sounded arrogant, forced, stressed, and hurried. So, I would assume that Broadcast Radio is NOT like riding a bicycle; though with both, after a long period of not doing it, you are not going to be very proficient…
Give it up Art, and really retire, before you make an even bigger fool of yourself.

This cryptic message appeared on artie’s picture slots on both www.HamCams.com and www.3840hams.net earlier this very evening.It will be Satellite radio, of course! My guess is he has wanted to do this for a long, long time. It would ‘cement’ his standing as a highly rated ‘Talk Show Host’. The only questions are when and what?
The ‘when’ will not be until he bores of playing checkers with his child bride and changing baby diapers. Art does not seem to tolerate ‘retirement’ well, having retired so many times, this is a given.
Will he do a ‘clone’ of Coast-to-Coast AM, or strike off in a new direction when he signs with Satellite? My guess is that he will stick with the ‘paranormal’ but only cover people and topics of HIS choosing, as in his early shows from Vegas. We shall see...
Then there are always ‘cameo’ TV & movie rolls. No doubt, the offers keep rolling in. (Or maybe they do not – now that his true character has emerged.)
Finally, it has been a long time since he has composed a badly written, ghost authored, book. I have been telling him for years that I know what his next book should be, but he has never contacted me! Wonder why? It is moot now, as the content of his next book should be obvious. I just hope that this time he contracts with a better ghost author.
If Art Bell wants to promote (brag) about any or all of the above, or get any valid American input from peers, he will have to get back on Amateur Radio – it just isn’t the same vicariously, though your newest wife, Airyn Bell, or your brother-in-law Carl Richardson kb5fjx.
As for the rest of you Hams and SWL’s, your professional lives might be of interest also if it in some way dovetails into ‘radio’! If so, at least post a comment.
Now that artie has ‘paid’ for three Philippine women to be wives of Hams (Carl kb5fjx, artie w6obb, and now Ben kd5bcw), I cannot help but wonder if artie is setting up a charitable foundation of some type?
If so, I wonder if artie is now formally taking applications for this service? (OK, fess up! Who is next?) Has he applied for the proper state and federal credentials? Tax Exemption Status?
Another thought, has N.O.W. contacted him regarding equality of opportunity? I mean, what about FEMALE Hams? Along the same lines, why has artie not sponsored SWL’s needing to find a woman of servitude? I am sure there are a lot of old sicko male pedophiles SWL’s out there; are they not eligible? (And, let’s face facts, a 60 something male marrying a 20 something female IS a pedophile of sorts.)
So in future months, are we going to see a .pdf application for a FREE Philippine wife available on the Coast-to-Coast AM website? Would the requirements be: An uneducated divorced white male who has nothing to offer any woman except a green card, been brown nosing artie for years, and whose only thoughts for a wife and companion are spurious and sexual?
Craig’s List would be a lot cheaper, simpler, and straightforward...
I listened to the first hour of Coast-to-Coast AM both this last Saturday and Sunday nights. The announcement on Saturday night, of Asia Bell’s birth was both complete and appropriate; in fact, artie sounded like the quintessential ‘new dad’.
Also on Saturday night’s show, artie thanked Carl Richardson kb5fjx, his now brother-in-law & Sharon Richardson, his now sister-in-law for making the drive to Pahrump and staying for TWO weeks, a week before and a week after the birth of Asia. Am I the only one to find such a long visit by relatives at such a ‘delicate’ time to be, uhhh, noteworthy?
However, here is the clincher, reading between the lines (or, reading between the non-existent lines!); as NOT ONE TIME, did Art Bell mention Airyn other than in a factual manner (she told him she was having ‘pains’, they showered, etc). Artie never once commented on how Airyn was doing, how Airyn tolerated and was healing from the C-Section, how Airyn was doing with the baby.
Most men are even ‘more’ attentive, enthralled, appreciative, and in love with their wives (if love even existed in the first place) immediately AFTER the birth of a baby. This does not seem to be the case with the Bells. I find this lack of Airyn ‘being in the picture’ during this week’s Coast-to-Coast AM intros, as strange as the two-week visit from in-laws.

It has been over two weeks now since Jim’s tuner went down. There is no ‘update’ on his site http://www.jimandleah.com/ about the status of the Icom R-75’s repairs, or an approximate date when the site will again be functional.
Jim has not even posted to his private blog http://jimandleah.blogspot.com/ since Jan. 2007! Not a word on it about the Icom.
And what’s with Trish k4ze? On her blog http://patriciaray.blogspot.com/ she’s quoting the bible and talking about death! She is no longer streaming audio on her site http://patriciaray.net/index.html. Her latest interest seems to be videos. Jeeze...
But I digress, some SWL’s have been reduced to listening to artie’s w6obb, Pahrump Receiver; and about all that can be said about that is, it is better than nothing, and it may be better than Coast to Coast AM.

For those who are flush, I would like to remind you of http://www.dxtuners.com/ , way back when it was free, and I am talking YEARS ago, I listened there almost every night. If you are really going nutso, it is a viable, if expensive, option.
Something that has surprised me is the lack of ‘streamers’. I would have thought that the egos that like to ‘perform’ for an audience most would have jumped in with temporary (or permanent?) streams, if not actual tuners. In fact, with the ‘squabbling’ going on amongst the ‘groups’ now, I would have thought that each group would have their own web sites with dedicated streams, hit counters, forums, and chats, to see who got the largest share of the audience.
Then again, perhaps this is just part of the death of amateur radio, and you all have just fallen apart (in many ways) since the departure of artie from the air, just as he suggested you would.
Last Saturday night on Coast-to-Coast AM, the very first thing artie did was to announce his new business venture, Art Bell’s Pizza Punch. You can find this stuff for sale at: http://www.artbellspizzapunch.com/index.php (which by the way keeps ‘crashing’).
The new site for this venture looks like someone that has never built a web site before put it together with a WSIWYG editor. It definitely has an ‘amateurish’ feel and look. The colors are poor and ‘dated’. The clip art of a microphone and a UFO certainly perpetuates the Art Bell myths artie liked to perpetuate, and feeds (no pun intended!) the Art Bell crowd.
Apparently, Art Bell feels that he needs to have an additional income, if so; it is too bad he picked this particular business venture to back, partner with, or whatever. (I wonder if Pizza Punch is going to be another Bonnie Crystal kq6xa, venture; one of his so-called friends talking him into investing oodles into some barely viable enterprise.)
You can walk into any good Pizza or Sub Sandwich Shop and find a shaker bottle of seasoned Olive Oil to use on your food, not exactly a new or different idea! Perhaps Art Bell’s recent online sales venture just goes to prove how isolated from reality he is.
Anyone with half a brain would realize that they could buy their own, brand name, Olive Oil at any market and add their own seasonings for about $7.99 for a 19-ounce bottle, or about .47 cents per ounce. Art Bell’s Pizza Punch on the other hand, goes for $4.59 (+ shipping?) per 5-ounce bottle, or about .92 cents per ounce. How stupid does he think his fans are?
Art Bell’s Pizza Punch is actually produced by The Santa Barbara Olive Company http://www.sbolive.com/ (And this web site looks professionally made.) which seems to be owned by Craig Makela and his wife, Cindy. Why a California Company like this would want to associate with Art Bell, is beyond me, must be either a friend or fan of Mr. Bell, or in deep financial trouble and grasping at straws.
Then there are the Art Bell’s Pizza Punch accessories! Overpriced caps, T’s, and aprons! Perhaps he has the Filipino contingent of his ‘extended family’ making these in a back room type environment. Yep, bet that is it, artie needed something to keep the Ruiz women’s hands busy!
The Pizza Punch site is really all about Art Bell. He plays mercilessly on the death of his late wife Ramona throughout the site as a way to sell the product! Including stating that “We will be contributing a percentage of every sale to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, in Ramona’s name”; but at no place does it state exactly HOW MUCH will be donated, meaning that he could get away with ‘donating’ 1/10 of a penny for each sale. And his concern for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation is such that there is not even a link to their site!
Does the man have no morals or class whatsoever?

Tonight would seem that many radio station streams of Coast-to-Coast AM are down including but surely not limited to: kfi, kfyi, kogo, and as reported on messenger, no internet steaming on east coast either.
It has to be a conspiracy, there is no other explanation! I am just as sure that artie w6obb will blame Billy! My question still is, how the hell did Billy manage it?
Art Bell w6obb, announced on Coast to Coast AM that starting THIS week-end, he would no longer be using a 'call screener' during 'Open Lines'.
Of course, he does have a 'delay' (I've heard 7 seconds) so he doesn't have to actually put on air just ANY caller. But one can try! If he doesn't recognize your voice or your name, you might have a chance!
Not to mention, folks can sure keep those lines busy! Have fun!

Was a blast, a real and viable alternative to the Coast-to-Coast AM broadcast. It really was fun, for those on air (3.740), and for those listening. I listened for a couple of hours, pre-midnight, and enjoyed every minute of it. (Then I caught Stan and others later on 3.840...in an entirely different type of venue.)
Fun defined as: little if any, profanity, no character assignation, little talk of audio or antennas, interesting topics, scintiling verbiage (Stan Karascewski wg6k), drama, (Tony’s rising blood pressure and OO probs), NOT a mention (or seldom a mention) of Art Bell w6obb, a working phone patch with callers, NO jammers, and all of it backed up with real entertainment in the form of ‘personal expression’.
The ‘personal expression’ came in a variety of ragtime and other favs by Bill Thompson n6nwx, who is pretty darn good on the 88’s, and he even took ‘requests’!
My only complaint with The Short Attention Span Network (which has recently changed frequencies to 3.740 from 3.815), and it is not a new one, I have mentioned it before in the HamFanz Grudge Report, is that their attention span is sooo short they forget to ID, and I often do not recognize all the ‘players’!
If you are looking for some good, adult, earlier in the evening SWL, do check out the Short Attention Span Network on 3.740, especially on Saturday night, it would seem.

He moves to Manila, a volcano erupts and threatens to blow big time within 150 miles of his fancy condo. Then super typhoon after super typhoon lashes the Philippines. As he is literally leaving, while in the air, an earthquake hits, damaging internet and phone lines under the ocean. He would not have been able to 'do' Coast to Coast AM for several weeks!
Right after he returns to Pahrump, NV, winds and extreme cold hits. Again, power is 'hit' and he's not going to be able to 'do' Coast to Coast AM this week end.
You know what? I wouldn't want to live with in a hundred miles of the guy. I think Ramona is out to get him; he can't run and he can't hide. Ramona Bell will eventually succeed...
It’s been a week since artie w6obb, disappeared; a week since the last Grudge Report on the same. Indeed, we had to listen to a replay of his last night on c2c, and tonight George Noory is ‘sitting in’ for artie.
Rumors have quietly slid back and forth on the net; most unbelievable, silly or wild, like:
Art Bell: Rebuilding a life
Art Bell Is taking those first few painful steps to return to his life, albeit a totally changed one.
If there’s one consolation Art has, it’s the knowledge that many of us, in one way or another, have walked in those same shoes, and have made it through the pain and grief, have rebuilt lives, just as he can.
It was good to not only hear him on air last night, talking with his HAM buddies, but being open with them about his difficulties with shopping and cooking (LOL), but also sharing and comparing the process of grief.
Later in the night, after I went to bed, I listened to part of Coast to Coast AM and heard George Noory announce that Art Bell would be doing this Sunday’s broadcast.
I was almost asleep as I heard this, and there was no announcement on the c2c website today, so I am completely unsure of my facts.
But I thought George Noory, sounded not only a little put out, as he talked about Art broadcasting on Sunday(s?), but also kind of snide or condescending as he insisted it was what Art Bell wanted, to keep busy. And that he’d “broadcast this Sunday, and after that, well, we’ll see.”
Even in my almost ‘sleep’ state, I couldn’t help but wonder at the dynamics flowing here: between Premiere Radio, George Noory and Art Bell? Does Art have contractual arrangements with Premiere Radio? Is Noory feeling insecure about Art reclaiming ONE night a week of what was unquestionably once, only Art’s domain???
I hope this specific transition goes smoothly for all, including Art returning to broadcast radio, as many nights as he wants. George Noory IS good, but let’s face it, Art Bell IS what goes ‘bump’ in the night…
After a hundred thousand tries, I finally managed to get into the so-called Pahrump Receiver last night for an entire hour.
I heard the 'testing' of the phone patch, including arties w6obb, phone call to Jim Watson ki6gu. Then whatever came after that, till my 'nickel' was up, and I was kicked out. Oh, and I even missed a few minutes of that as I had to visit 'the other room', something that couldn't be put off.
After another hundred thousand tries at refreshing the Pahrump Receiver page, I gave up in total frustration, and went to bed with a good book and Coast To Coast AM with George Noory, (whom I might add, is NEVER on an ego trip!). It was a lot more fun and relaxing.
What I did hear of the ‘Phone Patch’ was fascinating. Sorry I missed it the event in it’s entirety. And miss it all I did. Even today, at odd times, I tried to get into the Pahrump Receiver, in the hopes of catching at least part of the ‘playback’ with no more luck than I’d had last night.
However, my brain matter was not inactive as I was clicking away at the refresh button; here’s the direction my thoughts took…
-Does artie REALLY think he’s going to make friends and influence people to get involved in Amateur Radio with what has turned out to be just another version of the old ‘bait & switch’ bit??? (Put up a receiver, promote it heavily, then not let anyone listen to it?)
-Does he really think that folks are going to stick around a hobby very long, when all they get is frustrated and feel that their strings are being pulled as if they are puppets?
-WHY does a ‘hobby’ need to be promoted anyway? WHO said this needed to be done? Amateur Radio will die a natural death or it won’t, there’s nothing artie or any other HAM, can do about it. You are interested in a specific activity, or you are not; you seek it out, or you don’t. In all my life, I have NEVER seen anyone actively ‘promoting’ knitting, photography, mud wrestling, stamp collecting, patio gardening, or model railroads. Sure, they have shows, open to the public events, as does Amateur Radio, not one person out there trying to do it all.
Nope, I think the entire ‘build-up-the-hobby’ thing is just one more way for artie to manipulate the HAMS that hang out on 3.840 with him. Otherwise, he’d put his MONEY where his mouth is, and put the Pahrump Receiver on a server that could handle a huge amount of traffic, and just PAY for the bandwidth, which is something that might ACTUALLY promote the hobby! (Or at least promote the 3.840’s.)
Even giving artie the benefit of the doubt, he obviously did NOT think this one through, and I think he may be driving more people away, than attracting them.
As for me, I’m going to be listening to Gorge Noory tonight also. So I guess one thing artie will be accomplishing is to ‘up’ the ratings of C2C.
