The Proof is in the Pudding (Results)

Apparently, night before last, 9.8.05, there was a long, deep, animated, and sometimes heated discussion on 3.840 regarding the recent disaster of hurricane Katrina. It would seem that all the ‘regulars’ had an opinion (of course, don’t we all!).

The only problem with this was that there were NO ARCHIVED RECORDINGS of this, no doubt, collectable event. Even artie w60bb does not have any recordings! He said that: in order for the recordings that are made (by s-meter) and replayed the next day to be saved, artie himself has to notify s-meter BEFORE 8pm. That is BEFORE anyone knows if there’s going to be a ‘need’ for such a record to be archived! (Guess the highly touted s-meter does have its flaws.)

And, let's face it, even if artie HAD recordings, he'd only share them with 'the loop cult' and then only after he'd edited them!

Last night, there was much on air moaning and groaning by various HAMS who’d missed the most recent fun and games. They wanted to listen to recordings of the conversation. It was pointed out (as if we all didn’t already know this) by artie, that anyone could have listened to the replays during the day today had they wanted.

But this again assumes, that a person WOULD KNOW that they wanted to hear something, and would be home and not sleeping, working, or whatever ‘ing’ they might be involved in at the exact time of the replay. They’d also have to be AT their computer, and manage to get back on the tuner (missing how much of the replay?) every hour as they were bounced off.

I know I’d sure like to hear that conversation! Last night on air it was reported that: Jim Watson ki6gu, insulted Trish. That Trish k4ze, went away ‘mad’ (Trish, was it worth all you’ve gone through?). That Moody wq6i, thought the whole event ‘magnified’ (My word, not his – but since I don’t have a recording, I have to go on memory, which is admittedly poor.). This is ALL second and third hand info, as I didn’t hear it myself and again, have no recordings.

Since I am obviously not a HAM, therefore not a member of the 'cult of the loop', I do not have access to the few hour-long segments, that some HAMS did record. If you have one of these segments, please email to me at HamFans@cox.net !

Lastly, this is all totally nuts!!!
-Stop that 1 hr kick off on the Pahrump Tuner, at least till some other ‘streaming’ tuners are online.
-Why can’t artie put up a second, non s-meter, ‘streaming’ tuner?
-Why can’t s-meter ASSIGN 10 slots just for designated streamers, that wouldn’t be ‘kicked’???
-Offer to help Jim n7js, with his HamStreams project (Jim, can I be of help?)
-If you are in a position to stream, get it up and going!
-If 3840HamFans can help in any way with these projects, please let me know.

Online recievers are great if they are tuned for any frequencie other then 3.840. I know when i first started listening to the 3.840 group it was decent but then i got to know these people. Instead of hours worth of enjoyment listening to the hf freqs it has now become a who has the most money and bigger amp. I believe people should not broadcast 3.840 for the simple fact that people with god complexes love attention, so why give it to them? Another thing i find funny is cult members recording each other, i thought that was illegal unless the person had prior approval from the person(s) that would be recorded? Steve-o check into it huh. They do it every time you transmit. Why i am on this subject, steve are you licensed anymore? if your not don't talk, you are asking for a visit from uncle charlie. Steve-o im sure your not a saint but neither is most of the 3.840 group. It would be funny if a fcc rep could monitor 3.840 for several months and hand out a couple of nice hello letters.

Yes I am licensed. Do you think I would be talking on the radio if I was not? I agree with you that the FCC needs to do a close examination of the activities of the regulars on 3840, expecially the jamming and music playing by Billy Crowell, Jim Watking, and others. It is amazing the bad behavior Art Bell tolerates, and even encourages, with his cronies on 3840. The FCC must be aware of this and perhaps they will one day stalk out Billy's QTH and put a stop to it.

BTW, although Billy (a lawyer in CA) lies openly about his callsign renewal, claiming it is good until 2015 (mine is good to 2014 BTW), Billy, N6AYJ is actually up for renewal in March of 2007. Depending on Billy's future actions, some may decide to challenge his renewal. Billy Crowell and his jammin' son Nate, had better be on their best behavior for the next 1 1/2 years, or Billy may be at the least looking for a few way to spend his evenings, and at worse, just might lose his license to practice law in CA. Take Care, Billy!

>But not as K6TXH, which the FCC took away. Why, Steve? What did they tell you?

They have not sent me a notice or email for almost 3 weeks since they made the change. Billy claims to be the one making the request to withdraw my vanity call. BILLY!!! (Hopefully SOME will see the irony here!)

>You typically turn questions about your license and radio behavior into criticism of someone else.

I simply point out the hypocracy of the others on 3840 who frequently violate the rules with the apparent blessings of Art Bell.

At least I have the guts to state my identity when I make comments, something that you are obviously afraid to do. WHY?

OK, so let me get this straight.

- You have no life and you're so obsessed with Art Bell that you listen to 3840 night after night, waiting for something interesting to happen, even though there are lots of other frequencies you could be listening to and simply turning the dial would increase the ratio of "interesting" to nights spent waiting for it.

- Something "interesting" finally happens on 3840, i.e., there's a discussion of some kind that doesn't involve antennas or drunks.

- Because you were too inept to record it, it's somebody ELSE's fault for not recording it for you.

Makes about as much sense as listening to one frequency night after night waiting for something to happen...

Well it is almost winter time. Time for the radio host and his friends to migrate to 160 meters. Its kinda of funny most goto 160 and talk there crap but then the pahrump reciever is tuned to it go figure, its never ending drama. Hey 3.840 people what are you going to do once this happens? I guess then we could call it the 1.870 group LOL. If there are so many issues with the RADIO host and his buddies why listen to them? I'm sure there are many other more interesting things to listen too. Evvy, I heard their comments about you last night but you know what it is a lost cause who cares what they think and they shouldn't care what is said here. One person said steve-o was the life of the party, well i would'nt say that I think the life of the party was the Responsable hams who egged steve-o on ya who good radio practice guys... keep it up I am sure you are getting someones attention. Steve-o starts talking just get a bigger amp, that would be the right way to deal with him right? NOT!!! Like I read on another message board "3.840 is the new channel 19". And we are supposed to be professionals? After all there is a test...

Just wondering how another ham can say to another ham "Get off this frequencie"? If the persons are licensed for the frequencie why couldn't they use them? Thats bullshit. Who the hell died and made you GOD? YOu all should have your licenses pulled and start from scratch. You ever read part 97?

>> you have behaved badly in the past and have been a problem on the frequency. Can you admit that to yourself?
>> Can you?

I have indeed given Art and others, mostly Greg, a hard time, and perhaps have said some things I might prefer to have avoided because they were taken in the wrong context. However most was meant in jest. These guys take themselves WAY too seriously.

At least I don't play music and jam like some of the regulars.

Sorry Steve, that doesn't wash. I'm a ham, a plain ole ham, not a member of the 3840 clique. I have heard you numerous times on both 3840 and 3815. You seem like a nice enough guy, but when you get behind a few glasses of wine, you turn into a vile, incoherent, monster.

You use the most foul language I have ever heard on the air. I don't care who baits you, whether you are treated fairly by others, whether they are playing music, whatever. None of that justifies your behavior. When you are drunk, YOU DO NOT BELONG ON THE AIR. Time to take responsibility for your own actions. "Just in jest" doesn't wash. You are an embarrassment to the amateur community and I hope the FCC yanks your ticket.

In the meantime, get some substance-abuse counseling. Your ham ticket is only a small part of your life. The rest of your life is more important. Get help.

I'm posting this here, because whether others admit it or not, this place is probably read more than any other info site by all sides.
My new site will be password controlled. You just need to request one. The site will all be in active/x so it will have the updated capabilities, (i.e. signal graphing, users online viewing, chat, etc) There will also be the auto SSTV uploader. In addition there will be real time uploaded weather data and an Echolink Repeater back online. That's for starters for now. Please use Art's receiver for 3.840 as is being done. It's a real waste of resources to use mine for one freq. Someone told me, it's not a waste because it's late at night and no-one would use it for anything else at that time. Actually, I used to have a broad spectrum of European users etc. who used it at those hours but became frustrated with the constant pull back to 3.840 all the time. HOWEVER, I have furthermore created a page called hamstreams.com just in case you can't get into Art's etc. (or he pulls it down or whatever). Hamstreams will be a consolodation page for anyone interested in streaming 3.840. All the streams don't have to be exclusive of that, but it would be nice if some were for backup. You will need a static IP (one that does not change to do this) and high speed internet. If you have Comcast, you are good to go for sure. Other's may also have a static IP.
If you are interested in your own spot - let me know, so I know how many to roll out at first. (soujim@wfrmls.com) I need your AUDIO streaming URL (i.e 24.59.476.459:8080). Also a URL to a picture of your setup (i.e. http://crazyman.tripod.com/station.jpg).

>Steve, you seem like an intelligent guy. Why this big blind spot?

The issue is legal, not psycological. I hope you understand why I would rather not make any statements here under my callsign identity that might in some way be used against me. This has happened in the past, even with statements that did not mean to be taken seriously. Since I do not like making anonymous comments, I'll leave it at that.

I hope you understand.

"Steve, you seem like an intelligent guy. Why this big blind spot?

You know, people are generally very forgiving, but only to those who admit their failings and apologize. If you were to face up to your bad behavior, apologize to the group, clean up your act on the radio for a while, and stop the defensive criticism of others, then I'll bet people's attitude toward you would gradually start to change.

Give yourself a break. "

I agree, BUT do you really thing steve apologizeing will matter to those people? I don't believe so. Steve Do yourself a favor and stay off the booze!! I don't know you but reading some of your posts on this site and a couple others it seems like you have to be in billy's or timmies business, WHO GIVES A FUCK!!! Leave it alone let them screw up and get popped, its not your problem right? You have enough to worrie about. Some are out to get your ticket. Let the radio host and friends soil in their own problems.. I bet you are the talk of msn at nights. How strange how the original posting led to this... Oh well, Steve again stay off the booze and leave the radio host and his followers alone. It will be interesting, no one on there causing problems that would mean they would have to find someone else to give shit to. THink about it, What would 3.840 be without gossip and evil plotting?

Just another frequencie:)

> I don't know you but reading some of your posts on this site and a couple others it seems like you have to be in billy's or timmies business...

I have good reasons to sometimes discuss Billy's and Timmy's actions. Since Billy claims to have been the driving force behind contesting my recent vanity license, I find it quite appropriate to point out to Billy and others that HIS license is up for renewal in a year and a half from now, expecially in light of the fact that he openly admits that his son uses his radios for jamming and playing music. Billy himself has often jammed 3810 and 3840 in the recent past. My pointing out Billy's hypocracy is quite appropriate. Where do you get off telling me what to worry about and who I may discuss on this site?

And as I have pointed out in the past, you will not post your identity here for some reason. Why? You will not answer that for some reason, but you sure have a lot of questions for others.

> Why would you care if someone knew your vanity call? I wouldn't and don't.

I never said I cared if anyone knew my vanity call -- only that I did not like the fact that Billy asked the FCC to cancel it because he claimed *I* was jamming when he was actually doing it. Now I am back to my previous callsign, not a big deal, but rather annoying after paying $20 to get the vanity and then having it cancelled because of someone the likes of Billy!
