Art Bell now an ex-pat

According to several reliable sources, artie is now living in the Philippines, and has burned his bridges behind him. He says he is NEVER returning to the US. (The ‘exodus’ some have referred to on air.)

He sold his ‘compound’ to Tom in Arizona, who will probably be moving in this next week, and is recruiting help for the move.

artie GAVE his guesthouse to Karen (now the owner of KNYE), and the station controls which were moved there last week. All property rights were also given to Karen on the big sign for KNYE on highway 160, as with the land it sits on, it is worth a huge chunk of money for advertising rights, as no one can buy land anymore to put up signs for advertising.

He gave away one car (not to me!), and sold another to a ‘good friend’.

And to show what kind of man he is, he had all his cats put down. (Now WHAT vet would put down healthy animals? That person should be reported to the Nevada authorities.) It is said that his condominium in Manila does not allow pets… (hmmm, kinda like Ramona, huh?)

And to show what kind of man he is, he did not even say ‘good bye’ to friends he’s had for years. (Nor did he drop a hefty amount into my PayPal account to help with uncovered medical expenses!)

Good riddance! With any luck, the other NAMBPIGs will join him there.

Perhaps now, without artie’s constant threats of lawsuits, complaints to the FCC, and other strong arm tactics, SWL will be ‘fun’, again. With no more ‘late night’ EliteHams, maybe early evening will see more of w6wbj, wb6bnq, k4ze, k6txh, n7js, w7lw, and other interesting HAMS.

Melba Mac w7lw may no Longer be Melba Mac

Heard last night, on an unknown frequency as I was listening through smeter, and frequently changing receivers.

Melba Mac and wife are moving back to Boise, ID. They are going to rent, not buy.

Now, I just heard the last few minutes of his transmission, and he was not loud, and sounded ‘tinny’, unlike his former transmissions on 3.840 and 3.765. In fact, I did not even recognize his voice, but did ‘tune in’ to his ‘content’. So I’m probably missing info.

Seems like there are some health issues now, and they want to live ‘closer in’ to civilization. (My assumption from what I did hear.) I do not know if this move is just for the coming winter, or a permanent move. I do not know if he’s going to sell his Melba digs. So if anyone has further info on this item, please post...

It was absolutely great hearing him again (no matter how poor the audio)! And getting caught up on his life, his wife, his grandsons (he has them for the next 4 days), and his dogs!

Melba Mac w7lw, was always one of my favorite HAMS, since the first day (night?) of his arrival on 3.840. And he still is. He is an interesting person, has and does lead an interesting life. (Perhaps one I even envy: family, basic good health, financial stability, one long-term spouse, morality that he’s not afraid of discussing and living.)

My complaint about Melba Mac? Perhaps he’s too rigid. He tends to judge others too harshly, eliminating them from his life (radio that is), painting all with the same brush. He doesn’t seem to tolerate differences, ie play well with ALL the other kids, and obviously, takes his toys and goes to play elsewhere. Even his web site is gone, gone, gone. When he could be part of the ‘solution’, be a stabilizing factor, on ANY frequency. Not only our loss, but his (some of these nuts could help expand Mac’s personal ‘growth’.) And my guess is Melba Mac would be welcome on any frequency...

I am curious though, if Melba Mac now regrets his decisions to follow artie’s w6obb insistent suggestions to move ‘into the wilderness’. He spent all that time, energy and money on property, a pre-fab, digging wells, putting in drives, and trying to put up a loop. For what? And why – to emulate arties life style? Jeeze, if he’d have just waited, perhaps he could have purchased the Pahrump Compound at a bottom-line price...

(Hey Mac! We’re all still here! We like ya! And we didn’t go running off to Manila to remarry! Well, most of us didn’t!).

Melba Mac can sure Backpedal!

I was not surprised, but I was disappointed, to hear Melba Mac w7lw, night before last, backpedal on prior statements on air regarding the 'bird humor' with Bill the Troll n6ayj.

I was suprised because I wasn't sure just how much of a 'loop worshiper' Melba Mac was; now we know!

He was not 'groveling', exactly, but he did want to make sure artie w6obb, 'knew the whole story'. He even reposted the picture of the 'bird' on HamCams for a few minutes again, so artie could view it first hand.

Jeeze, the whole story, such as it is, can be heard on the audio clip!

With his usual 'could care less' attitude (understandable in this instance), artie just said something about people 'twisting' the facts. How can one 'twist' an audio clip (well, sans editing, of course)???

Unfortuntately, I was not recording - too much static! But the original, unedited, audio clip remains on the site.

These 'loop worshipers' are really something else! Wish I could understand the mentallity.

Grain of Truth???

I'd seen the picture first, while wandering around HamCams for a few minutes to see if anything NEW has been posted, and wondered about it myself.

Then later that same evening, I just happened to be listening when Billie the Troll - n6ayj, asked Melba Mac - w7lw, about the significance of the baby bird picture Mac had posted to Hamcams. ("Birds of a feather", these two HAMS are not! For one thing, Melba Mac w7lw, is a human being.)

The resulting conversation (tit for tat!) was great, I laughed all the way through it. I have no doubts that this specific clip will become a classic...

BUT, is there perhaps a small grain of truth in Melba Mac's w7lw on air (and on HamCams) 'humor' about baby birds, about the HAMS of 3.840, about how the HAMS cater to artie w6obb??? Of course there was!

Was Melba Mac saying with 'humor' what he was, in actuality, feeling??? Or had observed???

Listen to it yourself and make up your own mind.

And the best Director goes to...

The performers and the directors (and don't doubt for a second that it was both DIRECTED and a performed by many!) last night on 3.840 should get some kind of award. Like a burning brown bag on their doorsteps?

Now I'm not the brightest 'bulb' on the block (or after listening to these folks, perhaps I am!) but did NO ONE else notice the serendipitous timing of these recent events---

Monday night, artie - w60bb was distributing, via email, to some of his minions, x-cording; an easy and simple program any dummy could use to record mp3 files, like the antics on 3.840. (He also gave out instructions on how to install the program.)

Tuesday night, very early in the evening; artie - w60bb informed one and all (Big Ben - kd7bcw, Melba Mac - w7lw, and any other of the early bird HAMS), that the FCC would be monitoring the 3.840 frequency on this very evening. You could almost see the bobbing heads moving in astute agreement.

Then as the evening wore on with mind numbing boring conversation, artie, big ben, melba mac, and others gradually and quietly left the 3.840 frequency. Did they go elsewhere or were they monitoring???

Lo and behold billy the bill collector - n6ayj, was left all alone. Well, he might as well have been alone, he was trying to bloviate (and despite being a lawyer, he is NOT a bloviater!) TO timmie the tactless - n6mza.

Both of these HAMS were claiming OUTLAW status from the 3840 HAMS group. Claiming a kinship of sorts, they were encouraging, wheedling, enticing, and inviting SteveO - kg6txh to join them on air. And their prey took the bait.

Slowly, one by one, a few of the other regulars joined in: GU ki5gu, Greg the voice of unreason - w6ezv, Robolon - ke7bbx, and National City Bill - wb6bnq.

As SteveO became more & more intoxicated with whatever his favorite substance is, his rantings became more intense, repetitive, and non-sensical. It was painful to listen too actually, and sad. (And SteveO, you really should buff up that profanity vocabulary...there really are more than Carlin's 7 words.)

While a couple of the HAMS actually tried in subtle, half-hearted, ways to 'disarm' the situation, it was much too late for that. The 'plan' was in full swing, the recorders were recording away, as SteveO lost any control he may have thought he had, of himself and/or others. With the help, of course, of many of the participants, who fanned the fires with glee.

It was still going full-tilt, when I opted for bed. One has to wonder if these folks other favorite pastimes are watching S/M videos or going out on the south forty and shooting the livestock in the legs while gathering up the stuff for the brown bags...

Mac - w7lw - a rival?

Heard one night this last week on air.

Mac - w7lw says: (paraphrased) that he has an itch to build a bigger and better antenna than Art Bell-w60bb has.

Mac has purchased 5 acres of property in southern Idaho, kinda like Art did in Nevada. He has purchased pre-fab housing (which is being installed now), kinda like Art did. In fact, Art has been advising Mac on much of this.

Now Mac wants an antenna like Art's, only bigger and better.

Not that there's anything wrong with any of that! No indeedy, I kinda envy both of 'em, at least as far as owning property and homes go.

The thing of interest here: What if Mac-w6lw, succeeds???? Will Art then buy the county of Nye so he can build a REALLY BIG LOOP???

Stay tuned folks! The antenna 'wars' may have just heated up!!!
